November 1010 - Will Anderson
Will Anderson gets a hug from his mother, Connie, after being named Rotary Student of the Month for November at a meeting of the Brown County Rotary Club. A senior at Brown High School, Will was nominated for the award by his football coach, Ken Wendling (right), who said "Will played each and every game with a passion few young people have." October 2010 - Dylan Allen
Dylan Allen, a senior at Brown County High School and the son of Greg and Natalie Allen, gavels the Brown County Rotary Club meeting where he spoke about his summer experience in Mexico as an honors student. He also was a surprise recipient of the Rotary Student of the Month award for October. He was nominated for the Rotary award by his Spanish teacher, Alice Mannix, after being hosted in Mexico as part of the Indiana University Honors Program in Spanish. With him are his mother and Rotary Club President Sue Ann Werling.
April 2010 - Darian Smith
Brown County High School senior Darian Smith has added another award to an already impressive list for his academic, athletic and community activities. Smith (second from right) was named Rotary Student of the Month for April. Nominated by Dr. Laurie Godfrey, speech and theater teacher, and Pam Bond, school administrative assistant, Smith was chosen by a faculty selection committee. He has received outstanding student awards in chemistry, algebra and finance, has a 3.9 grade-point average, and is a member of National Honor Society. He had a role in the spring musical. He won the most valuable/gold award in track and the superintendent's mental attitude award in football. A big Brother in Brown County's Big Brother/Big Sister program, he also volunteers at a nursing home and is a mentor with Midwest Computer Solutions. On hand to congratulate him at a Rotary breakfast were his parents, Bob and Kari Smith.
March 2010 - Sarah Sweeney
Rotary Student of the Month for March, Sarah Sweeney, is pictured with her parents, Matthew and Sandy Sweeney, along with Brown County High School Librarian Brian Galm. Mr. Galm nominated Sarah, noting that she is “not only a member of this year’s top 10, she… is editor of the yearbook, was winter homecoming queen and has performed in school plays. … Sarah has a strong moral compass and is willing to stand upon her principles when she sees injustice.” Sarah also participates in Student Council and the Student Leadership Group as well as being a member of the National Honor Society.
January 2010 - Angelica Nevins
Angelica Nevins, a senior at Brown County High School, was chosen as the January Rotary Student of the Month for her outstanding community service and academic work. She coordinated a forty-four act Relay for Life talent show which raised $1,100 for cancer research. She also helps teach in a Columbus vocational program. Nominated by Matt Stark, high school principal, and then chosen by a faculty selection committee, Angelica is congratulated by her parents, Garth and Charlotte Nevins, and Rotary Club President Bert Clemons.
December 2009 - Seth Taylor
Seth Taylor, a senior at Brown County High School, gives his mother a hug after he was named Rotary Student of the Month for December. Rotary Club President, Bert Clemons (right) recognized Taylor at the December 17 club breakfast. Taylor is the son of Debbie Dailey and Jack Taylor. Brian Galm, the school librarian, nominated him, and a faculty selection committee chose him from several nominees. He was cited for outstanding achievements in math, the sciences, language, theater, music and history. He also is active in school sports and numerous charitable activities.
November 2009 - Jessica Rilenge
Jessica Rilenge, a junior at Brown County High School, was named the Rotary Student of the Month for November and was honored at the weekly meeting of the Brown County Rotary Club. She is the daughter of Donald and Rhonda Rilenge of Trafalgar. Danny Tieken (second from left), the school's English and film literature teacher, nominated her for the award, and a faculty selection committee chose her from several nominees for her academic and volunteer achievements. October 2009 - Chelsea BresterChelsea Brester, a senior at Brown County High School, was chosen October Student of the Month and received her award at the October 22nd Rotary Club breakfast meeting. Chelsea was nominated for the award by Brian Galm, high school librarian, and chosen by faculty. Dr. Charles Cody, the Rotarian coordinating this award program at the high school, introduced Chelsea and spoke of her achievements. Chelsea spoke of her academic and sports achievements in high school and her goals for higher education.
May 2009 – Christian Ely
Christian Ely has become the first sophomore to be chosen as a Rotary Student of the Month by the Brown County High School faculty selection committee. He and his parents, Kevin and Brenda Ely, were honored at the May 14 Brown County Rotary Club meeting. Christian was chosen for his leadership and enthusiasm in a wide range of school activities. Also on hand to congratulate Christian was Greg Renner (right), assistant district governor for south central Indiana Rotary clubs.
April 2009 – Brittani Taylor
Brittani Taylor (second from left), a senior a Brown County High School, was chosen by the school’s Faculty Selection Committee as the Rotary Student of the Month for April. Brittani was cited for her many academic and leadership activities. She ranks fourth academically in the Class of 2009 and participates in many activities including National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Student Council, Key Club and Varsity Soccer. She is the daughter of Michael and Theresa Taylor. Others on hand for the presentation at the April 30 meeting of the Rotary Club of Brown County were, from left, her mother; Alice Mannix, the Spanish and English teacher who recommended Brittani, and Christian Ely, a member of the school’s Leadership Committee.
March 2009 – Anna Leggins
Senior student Anna Leggins (second from left) was named Rotary Student of the Month for March. On hand in front of a school trophy case with a plaque bearing her name are, from left, Steve Makurat, the Earth Science, Chemistry and Physics teacher who nominated her, and her parents, Susan and Doug Leggins. Anna was cited for her outstanding academic and leadership achievements. She is a drum major for the band, a member of the tennis team and an office cadet. She is also involved in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Geology Club, Key Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Anna plans to attend Indiana University after graduation.
FEBRUARY 2009 – Margaret Seitz
Margaret Seitz, a junior at Brown County High School, was Rotary Student of the Month for February. She is the daughter of Teddy and JoAnne Seitz of Nashville. Margaret was recommended for the honor by her English teacher, Julie Miller, and chosen from among several candidates by school faculty. Cited for ranking academically in the top five of her class, Margaret also is a member of the Lady Eagles varsity basketball team, serves as class secretary and is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Peers Club and Prom Committee.
JANUARY 2009 – Corey Williams
Corey Williams, a senior at Brown County High School, was chosen as January 2009 Student of the Month. He was nominated by his guidance counselor, Donna Alwine, and chosen by faculty. Corey completed his highest grade point average during fall semester and will graduate in May. He plans to attend college.

DECEMBER 2008 – Margaret Burke
Margaret Burke, December Student of the Month, is the only student selected twice, once in her junior year, and again as a senior. David Langell is the teacher who nominated her. Margaret has been recognized as having one of the highest grade point averages in Brown County High School history. In addition, she stays very active in numerous extra curricular activities. Margaret’s parents are Sarah and Tim Burke. Pictured at a December club meeting are Margaret and Dr. Charles Cody, coordinator of the Student of the Month recognition.
NOVEMBER 2008 – Austin Pierce
Austin Pierce, November Student of the Month, was proposed by school librarian Bryan Galm. Austin’s favorite subjects are music, math, computers and English. He is active in the orchestra and the Elegance Choir in school and still finds time outside of school to be part of the Youth Ministry for Church of the Lakes and is a member of the Hamblin Township Fire Department. In addition, he attends IUPUC part time studying computers.

OCTOBER 2008 – Paige Brady
The October Student of the Month is Paige Brady, an outstanding Brown County High School senior, whose favorite subjects are math and science. Paige plans to pursue a college degree in dentistry, specializing in orthodontic treatments.
Paige is pictured with her parents, Kim and Brian Brady, and with Cheryl Fox, the teacher who nominated Paige for our Rotary’s recognition. Paige is active in the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, held a lead role in the fall school play, and has lettered on in Varsity Track and Field, where she specialized in pole vaulting. She is also the yearbook editor and is a member of the French Honor Society, the National Honor Society, and the school’s Academic Team---and still finds time to work at Mc Donald’s to earn spending money.
At an October Rotary meeting, President Pryde Bayliss and Dr. Charles Cody honored Paige with a certificate that will be on display in the high school. Her name will also be engraved on the Rotary Student of the Month plaque.
