SPEECH CONTEST
The Rotary Club of Brown County participates in Rotary District 6580 Speech Contest for high school students. The local contest is open to any Brown County high school student or home-school student. Participants give a speech on an announced topic before a panel of local judges. First, second, third monetary prizes are awarded to students. The first prize winner gives the speech to club members at a weekly meeting and goes on to participate in the District Speech Contest.
Sherry Lynn Bube won the local contest on March 12, 2009 and was awarded the $100 first prize. Ms. Bube was required to give a four to six minute speech, without notes or podium, on the topic of leadership and the ROTARY FOUR WAY TEST, which states “Of all the things we think, say, or do, is it: (1) The TRUTH? (2) FAIR to all concerned? (3) Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? (4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”
Winning the local contest qualified Ms. Bube to participate, along with winners from other Rotary clubs, in the Rotary District 6580 Speech Contest on March 28 in Terre Haute.
Ms. Bube is the daughter of Sharon and Raymond M. Bube Jr. of Brown County, and is an 11th grade home-school student.
